The lovely (Swedenborg) New Church provided the perfect setting for this elegant occasion.
Decades of Brides brought and modeled vintage gowns from their collection.
We learned about the origin of some bridal customs and how they have changed over the years (for instance why
brides in the late 19th century often wore black on their wedding day).
In addition, bridal gowns from the GHC’s own collection were on display, along with wedding photos from our archives.
Thanks to generous donations from local businesses, “wedding guests” enjoyed a delicious luncheon (complete with wedding cake for dessert) served by volunteers dressed in period apparel. Fresh flowers, wedding music and tuxedo-clad escorts for our “brides” added to the ambiance. To add to the fun, a mini-boutique (handcrafted jewelry, purses, etc.) and raffle baskets/prizes galore were offered.
